BUILDING AND SAFETY DEPARTMENT

Overview

The Building and Safety Department is responsible for inspections of new construction, general rehabilitation, and repair of commercial, residential and industrial properties to ensure compliance of building standards and to make the City’s commercial and industrial districts code compliant. To achieve these objectives, the Building and Safety Department reviews building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing plans, issues construction permits, conducts inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes, and provides inspection for residential property prior to sale or transfer.

 

Organization:

 

The Building Department has budgeted seven full-time staff and two contract inspectors for fiscal year 2007-2008. All staff participate in projects that provide services for new construction, as well as general rehabilitation and repair of commercial, residential and industrial properties to ensure compliance of building standards and to make the City’s commercial and industrial districts code compliant. The staff consists of one Chief Building Inspector, one Senior Building Inspector, one Administrative Analyst II, one Office Assistant I/Bilingual, two Building Inspectors I, one Building Inspector I, and two Contract Building Inspectors.
