Classes and programs are developed periodically when special interests are identified. These classes require a minimum of 15 persons and are free, unless otherwise noted.
Ceramics provides an opportunity to explore the basic technique for creating ceramic sculptures with creative painting. This class is scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Students must purchase their supplies.
Jewelry Making is scheduled on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and includes procedures and techniques in this unique art.
Sewing is scheduled on Fridays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. This class is sponsored by the Compton Adult School and provides instruction in basic sewing skills as well as the art of fine dressmaking. Drop in sewing is an unstructured class and is available daily in knitting, crocheting and quilting. Students share their knowledge and experience with other students.
Quilting is scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Millinery Class (hat making) are scheduled Monday and Fridays at 3:00 p.m.COMPUTER CLASS
This is a new class for the first encounters scheduled Monday thru Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is sponsored by Compton Adult School and will provide instructions in a variety of computer software including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Access for the absolute beginner.
Classes provide an opportunity to learn and perform the latest dances western style. Line Dancing is scheduled on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Beginner’s Line Dancing on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This is a low impact Exercise Class conducted by a certified instructor. Class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.
A variety of leisure time games such as dominoes, checkers, chess, bingo and cards are scheduled on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Activities will include tournaments, prizes and refreshments.
Music & Drama is part of our Performing Arts Program. Instruction is provided in vocal techniques of breathing, vocal placement, sight reading, mechanics of singing and performing; piano instruction in music theory, ear training and keyboard techniques; drama techniques in vocal exercise, language techniques, projection, improvisation, scene study, characterization, poem plots and performances.
Travel opportunities are available to many points of interest. There are one-day trips as well as extended tours continuously being planned. Including New York (Sept & Oct), Panama Canal (Mar) and Brazil (Oct).
A variety of clubs meet on a regular basis at various locations. Activities include meetings, games, excursions, parties and special events.
Golden Swingers meet at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m., 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Jolly Swingers meet at the Rosecrans Manor, 3:00 p.m., 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.
