Department: Housing Authority
Announcement: Warning to all Section 8 Tenants/Participants
Compton Local Housing Authority was recently notified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that one of the Public Housing Agencies (PHA’s) within the Southern California jurisdiction received some very disturbing information from a tenant. The tenant reported that there were individuals that came to the unit indicating they were HUD officials and needed to inspect the property. Upon entering the unit, these individuals refused to provide identification and would not allow the tenant to call and verify if they were indeed from HUD headquarters.
Please be advised that HUD and Housing Authority employees have official government identification badges/cards. When HUD comes out for on-site inspections, in nearly all cases, HUD personnel will have a staff member from the Housing Authority with them.
The Housing Authority urges you to check identification before allowing anyone in your home. If you have not received notification of any inspections and/or appointments the Housing Authority suggest you contact the Los Angeles area HUD office or the Housing Authority immediately at (310) 605-3080 to verify the identity of the individual(s) prior to allowing them entry into your home. Legitimate employees will not hesitate to provide you with a phone number to call and verify their identity for your own safety.
Remember to be conscious and aware of your surroundings, as well as your safety and the safety of your family.
