Mission Statement

The mission of Compton Parks and Recreation/Special Services is to assist in providing a positive quality of life to the Compton community by providing innovative sports activities, senior citizen services, leisure activities, youth development programs, health education services, substance abuse counseling, and parenting education.

Overview

The Parks and Recreation/Special Services Department provides a variety of recreational and leisure activities for people of all ages. Sports, classes, clubs and field trips are but a few of the offerings. Several of the parks offer organized sports for youth, and the Dollarhide Center serves as the hub of a multifaceted program for senior citizens. The department also coordinates a number of annual events, including the Christmas Parade, Winter Wonderland, Cinco de Mayo, Summer Soul Jam, and Gospel Concert among others. Through Special Services, community members also have access to substance abuse counseling and parenting education.
