Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG)

Since 1975, the City of Compton has qualified to receive federal Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) to expand economic opportunities, provide decent housing, and provide a suitable
living environment for low and moderate-income citizens. Some examples of CDBG-
funded activities in Compton include improvements to park and recreation facilities, youth
and senior citizen programs, and Fire Department upgrades.

Each year, the CDBG program partners with qualified Compton-based nonprofit organizations to provide vital public and human services (e.g. job training and homeless services). The CDBG program does not offer grants to individuals or businesses.
