City of Compton and Everytable Unite in Emergency Meal Program With Funding from Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine through Compton United Relief Fund

Compton, CA (May 6, 2020) – With funding from music legends Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, the City of Compton has partnered with Los Angeles’Everytable to provide up to 500 free meals daily to the city’s most vulnerable residents.

What: Drive-thru meal giveaway; 2 free meals per person /per day, while supplies last 

Who: Compton residents only; please show ID or recent utility bill

When: May 6 - June 16; Monday - Friday,  starting at 10 a.m. until all meals are distributed 

Where: Everytable - 253 E Compton Blvd, Compton, CA 90220

The healthy and nutritious meals will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, and Everytable will rotate three of its most popular menu items during the meal giveaway, including the Trap Kitchen Curry Chicken, Turkey Taco Bowl and the Chicken Tinga Bowl.

The Compton United Relief Fund, announced in late April, was created by the City to accept donations to directly fund COVID-19 relief. Soon after the announcement, rap legend Dr. Dre, who was born and raised in Compton, and Iovine, who co-founded Interscope Records made a significant contribution to benefit Compton residents. Their contribution will provide thousands of meals to those in need in addition to COVID-19 tests for those who cannot afford them. Both Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine have been a consistent source of support to the Compton community for many years.

“Increasing access to healthy food is one of the most significant challenges, especially in times of crisis as we are currently experiencing,” said Mayor Brown. “The City is extremely grateful for our partners at Everytable who will help us distribute free, nutritious meals to the people and families in our community that need it the most.”

Everytable was founded in 2016 with a mission to make healthy and affordable food accessible to everyone. At the start of the pandemic, it rapidly pivoted its retail model to become a major emergency food relief resource partnering with several local agencies and organizations to provide more than 1.5 million meals to those in need throughout Los Angeles County.

The Compton COVID-19 Relief Fund was created and approved by the Compton City Council in April. This fund enables the city to accept donations from private, nonprofit or other governmental agencies.
