Emma Sharif, a native of Arkansas, has been a concerned, dedicated, enthusiastic, resident of Compton for more than twenty years. Ensuring the educational success and overall well-being of all Compton students has been her enduring passion. Her passion for student success has been illustrated in her work as a teacher and a youth development director. She has worked tirelessly to provide quality educational opportunities for each and every student in the Compton Unified School District.

Emma’s dedication to the success of Compton’s youth is reflected in her long and strong support of the “Beating the Odds” scholarship program which assists homeless and/or foster youth to acquire a college education. She models the importance of education for students through her continuing educational journey. Emma Sharif received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science/Sociology from California State University Dominguez Hills and recently received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

In 2001, Emma was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees. In 2003 she was elected to her first full term as a member of the Board of Trustees. In May, 2015 she was elected to Compton City Council to represent the great people of the new 4th District and took office on July 1, 2015.

As a member of the CUSD Board of Trustees, Ms. Sharif has demonstrated leadership by serving in a variety of Board positions including: President, Vice President, Clerk and Legislative Representative. Her association with the California School Board Association (CSBA) began in 2001.

Since taking her seat on the Compton City Council, Ms. Sharif has championed open, transparent and accountable government; operating and financial efficiency; provision of services including street cleaning, tree trimming, and trash collection; community participation and interaction with government; and, providing a voice for the unheard.

Emma Sharif is dedicated to providing residents access to the process of governing the great City of Compton and giving them an empathetic ear to their voices.
