SPORTS PROGRAMS
Youth Sports

Youth Basketball


Youth who wish to learn the basic fundamental basketball skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, philosophy and theory, also competitive game play. Ages: 5 –17 years. Registration: Month of December. All parks.

 

Phase I Girls Basketball

Girls learn the basic fundamentals of Basketball. Girls ages 8 years to 13 years on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. League Entry Fee: $350.00 per team. All Parks.

 

Nike Swoosh Basketball Summer League
Summer League sponsored by Nike for ages 8 – 16 years. Twenty-two (22) team maximum. All games at Lueders Park. League play on Saturdays from June to August. Cost: $40.00

 

American Youth Soccer League
For children who wish to learn soccer fundamental skills of how to dribble, pass, throw, score goals, head butt, philosophy and theory as well as game competition. Ages: 5 to 17 years. League play begins September through December and Spring Season beginning March – June. Days: Saturdays and/or Sundays

 

Tatter Tots Basketball
Boys and Girls Basketball for children to learn the basic fundamentals of basketball and game play. Ages: 4 – 7 years. Registration: month of December.All parks.

 

Tennis Program
Sponsored by American Tennis Association. Ages: 14 years and under. Begins in the month of June through August. Equipment provided on a first come first serve basis. Wilson and/or Tragniew Parks.

 

UCLA/USC Kids Corner
Athletic events for children 8 – 17 years. Various dates throughout the year. Lueders Park.

 

Bowling
Fun filled activity for children 7 – 17 years. Last Saturday of the month. Cost: $15.00 each (shoes and food). Lueders Park.

 

Youth Flag Football
Youth ages 8 – 14 year. Youth who wish to learn and participate in competitive four man or eight man flag. Begins in October.

 

Youth T-Ball/Baseball Program
T-Ball is for boys and girls 5 – 8 years of age. Kids learn the fundamentals of baseball; hitting, throwing, fielding, running, etc. Participants must provide their own glove or mitt. All parks.


Youth Baseball
Youth 8 – 14 years. Fundamental and basic instruction and game competitive play. Participants must provide their glove or mitt.

 

Aquatics Program
Recreation Swim and Swim Lessons available at Gonzales Parks Aquatics Center and William Love Pool at Lueders Park. Also available is Lifeguard Training and Instruction Water Safety Instruction and First Aide Training and Certificates.

 

Adult Sports


Mid Age Hoopers
Basketball League for men 35 and older. League begins March through September. Game days on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. League Entry Fee: $350.00 per team. Lueders Park.

 

Stats Basketball Leagues
Adult Men’s Basketball Leagues conducted at Wilson Park. Fee: $300.00 per league each season.


18 & Over League
League begins October through February and also May through August. Games on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.


6’2’’ and Under
Games on Thursday nights from March to May and again from September to November.

RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

After School Program
After School Program is designed for kids from 5 – 12 years. Study Hall – Tutorial assistance in Math, Reading, Spelling, Social Studies, etc. Games and Activities. Program is free and held at the Parks.

 

Low Impact Aerobics
This class is a physical fitness program that offers complete and effective conditioning. Class is designed for a cardiovascular workout that stretches, tones, and tightens muscles to music. Class is Co-Ed. Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Gonzales Park.

 

Day Camps
A fun-filled Camp for youth 5 – 12 years. Campers enjoy meeting new friends, games, trips, swimming, dance, sports and games, etc.


Summer Camps
Begin in the last Monday of June through September (Two 5 week sessions). Each session is $300.00.


Holiday Camps
Holiday Camps are during Christmas and Easter Holiday Breaks.

 

Overnight Camping Trip
Camp is during the Easter Break. Sign up at Lueders Park.

 

Halloween Program
Carnivals, Haunted Houses and Picnic. Each park has a different activity for children 12 years and under. Costume parades, candy and prizes. Begins on the first Saturday in October. All parks.

 

TAAPS (Teens/Adults Activities Program)
Designed as a Teen Mentoring Program. Assisting in homework, trips, fun activities, conducting activities; i.e. domino, spades, pool and ping pong tourneys. Wilson Park.

 

Academic Olympiad
Contest for after school program in spelling, math, and writing. Wilson Park.

 

Cheerleading
Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Ages: 7 – 17 Cost: $100.00 (uniforms and registration). Lueders Park.

 

Dance Classes
Learn different dances i.e. modern to hip-hop. Youth from 8 – 14 years. Contact the Recreation Office on times, dates and parks.

 

Self Defense Classes

Learn the art of Self Defense for men, women and youth. All are welcome.


Burrell/MacDonald – classes in Ken Kara Jitsu conducted for youth on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and adults on Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Instructor: Grandmaster White (10th degree Black Belt)


Lueders Park – Black Karate Federation Kenpo Karate Classes for youth and adults on Mondays and Wednesdays 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Ages: 5 and up.


Gonzales Park – Under the supervision of Eyes of the Hawk Karate. Contact Gonzales Park at (310) 638-1007.
