The Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority, in coordination with the Compton Fire Department, Union Pacific Railroad, and BNSF Railway, conducted an annual emergency response drill on March 22, 2026, from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The exercise included a large-scale fire, hazardous materials, and rescue scenarios inside the Alameda Corridor Trench, a 10 -mile long, 33-foot-deep and 50-foot-wide freight rail corridor that connects the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the transcontinental rail network near downtown Los Angeles.
The training involved multi-agency response teams from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Compton Fire Department, Long Beach Fire Department, Montebello Fire Department, Downey Fire Department, Santa Fe Springs HazMat, as well as Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway, and representatives from the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority.
Each agency conducted drills based on realistic emergency scenarios. The goal was to help first responders better understand the unique features of the Alameda Corridor Trench and ensure they are prepared to respond quickly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
As part of the training exercise, Alameda Street west was closed between Compton Boulevard and Myrrh Street from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Traffic was detoured to Alameda Street east or other nearby north-south routes.
This was only a training drill.
