March 5, 2024 Statewide Presidential Primary Election
Nomination Period:
January 8, 2024 to February 20, 2024

Overview:
The City of Compton will conduct a Primary Nominating Election on March 5, 2024, specifically for the following offices:
•City Council District 1 and District 4
•Special Election for the offices of City Attorney and City Clerk.
Election Details:
•City Attorney and City Clerk Election: These positions are elected city wide by voters across the entire City.
• City Council Election: Members of the City Council are voted into
office by electors in specific City Districts. Registered voters cast
ballots only for the district they reside in.
In the event that no candidate receives 51% of the votes cast for the
office, a runoff election will be held on November 5, 2024. The two
candidates receiving the highest number of votes in the Presidential
Primary Election shall be the candidates in the runoff election.
Important Deadlines:
• The Statement of Write In Candidacy and Nomination form filing
deadline is February 20, 2024 @ 5:00 P.M.

City Clerk's Role:
The City Charter designates the City Clerk as the authority in charge of all
City elections. As the Elections Official, the City Clerk processes nominations
for the Mayor, City Council, and all other elected seats governing the City. Additionally, the office accepts campaign filings.
