The City of Compton’s Risk Management Division is responsible for managing and mitigating the City’s exposure to risk. Risk Management has a staff dedicated to the self-administration of a viable workers’ compensation and general liability program. Loss control and prevention programs are in place to prevent employee injury, public injury and loss of property.

Insurance

The City of Compton maintains a competitively priced insurance portfolio to assist in the transferring of risk. A broker/client relationship has been the best method of accomplishing this goal for the City. As a result, the City has been successful in transferring risk in areas from excess general liability to special events policies, tailored specifically for the City of Compton.

Those interested in conducting work within the City boundaries should maintain and show proof of insurance, naming the City as an additional insured for not less than one million dollars minimum liability per occurrence, and in the general aggregate. Some insurance requirements will be greater, depending on the project or work being performed.

Workers’ Compensation

Workers’ Compensation claims are managed in the City Attorney’s Office, on the 2nd floor of City Hall. Risk Management Staff will conduct employee intake and insure prompt and expeditious medical care on all accepted claims.

Liability

The City’s liability claims are managed by the City Attorney’s Office. Liability claims against the City must be filed with the Controller’s Office on the 2nd floor of City Hall. Learn how to file a claim here.

Safety Program

City departments such as Public Works, Water, and General Services conduct regular safety tailgate meetings and training. City management is trained in-house on personnel issues such as discrimination and sexual harassment. Risk Management staff is continually trained on new legislation and regulations to ensure safe working conditions.
