COMPTON– Tana L. McCoy was sworn in to office Wednesday as the newest member of the Compton City Council by City Clerk Alita Godwin. McCoy will replace longtime councilmember Yvonne Arceneaux who retired in December serving out the remainder of Arceneaux’s sixth term that started in 2013.
"I am truly honored to be appointed to serve the residents of the third district,” commented Councilmember Tana L. McCoy. “As a long time Compton resident and civil servant I understand the issues first hand as well as the opportunities. I believe I'm fully equipped for the challenge and look forward to working with the community and my colleagues to effect positive change in the great City of Compton."
“I am confident that Councilmember McCoy will be an effective leader and representative for the residents of Compton’s third district,” said Mayor Aja Brown. “I’m looking forward to Councilmember McCoy joining my colleagues on the city council and myself in our work to keep Compton moving forward.”
"It is truly a great day in Compton,” exclaimed Councilmember Janna Zurita. “Tana McCoy is an outstanding addition to the Compton city council. Our efforts to create jobs, ensure public safety and promote our city are going to be enhanced with Tana on the city council."
Prior to being appointed to the City Council, Ms. McCoy was an employee of the City of Compton for 41 years, 30 years of which she spent as the Council Liaison to the entire City Council.
