Update on the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor Project

The Public Scoping Process for the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor (WSAB) Project was conducted last summer, and over 1,100 written and oral comments were received from the public.  A large portion of the comments contained specific concerns regarding the original Northern Alignment options in the downtown Los Angeles area.

In response to these comments and the availability of updated technical information, the WSAB Project Team is currently revisiting and expanding the original Northern Alignment options.  The new refined Northern Alignment options are very conceptual in nature and will be presented to the Metro Board of Directors at their upcoming March 1st Board Meeting to request that further analyses be conducted.  Click here to view the information that was recently presented at Metro’s Planning and Programming Committee on February 14th.  However, it should be noted that the original Northern Alignment options are still under consideration and will be evaluated in comparison to the new refined options to determine which best meet the project’s goals and will be carried forward in the environmental review process.  For more information, please visit the project website.

Recent Community Meetings for the I-605 Corridor Improvement Project

Metro and Caltrans recently conducted three community meetings on the I-605 Corridor Improvement Project in Pico Rivera (February 6), Norwalk (February 7) and Whittier (February 8) to provide updates, answer questions and gather feedback on the concerns and needs of community members along the corridor.  Presentation materials may be viewed or downloaded by visiting the project website.  Metro and Caltrans plan to be back in the community in late 2019 for the public circulation of the draft environmental document containing the project findings and to receive formal public comment.

Additional Work to Modernize the Blue Line (The New Blue) will Begin in 2019

Efforts to modernize the Blue Line have been underway since 2014 as part of a $1.2 billion project that’s now being called “The New Blue”.  The goal of this work is to make the line faster and more reliable for transit riders.  This work will also include an extended closure of the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station, which is being completely rebuilt to include a new public plaza and Metro Customer Service Center, bike hub, transit court, better LED lighting and new bus bays.  Metro will be conducting an extensive outreach and communications program for this massive effort, and will provide more details on this and the construction schedule in the coming months.  You can also view a recent blog post published about this project in The Source.
