The Office of the City Attorney for Compton is dedicated to protecting the City’s legal interests with integrity and purpose. Led by Eric J. Perrodin, a former Compton police officer, the city’s longest-serving mayor for 12 years, and a former District Attorney, our office is committed to providing sound legal counsel, enforcing local laws, and minimizing the city’s legal risks. With a deep-rooted history of service to Compton, we strive to enhance transparency, accountability, and trust in the community, ensuring the city’s legal affairs are handled with the utmost professionalism.

The City Attorney’s Office is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to protect and serve the interests of the City of Compton. Our core services include:

  • Criminal Misdemeanor Prosecution
    We effectively prosecute misdemeanor offenses to ensure public safety and uphold local laws.
  • Civil Litigation and Small Claims Management
    We represent the City in civil litigation, small claims, and related legal disputes to safeguard municipal assets and interests.
  • Transactional Legal Support
    We draft, review, and negotiate contracts, resolutions, and ordinances to ensure the legality and efficacy of City operations and agreements.
  • Subpoena Processing
    We efficiently manage and respond to subpoenas, ensuring the City complies with legal obligations and maintains transparency.
  • Legal Counsel to City Council and Departments
    We provide informed legal guidance to the City Council, departments, and staff to support sound decision-making and strategic planning.

About Us

Welcome to the Office of the City Attorney for the City of Compton. Our office is dedicated to protecting the legal interests of the City by minimizing liability, enforcing local laws, and offering sound, principled legal advice. We are committed to serving the City of Compton with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

The City Attorney’s Office consists of the elected City Attorney and a Legal Assistant. As outlined in Section 702 of the City Charter, the City Attorney serves as the Chief Legal Officer of the City. In this role, the City Attorney represents and advises the City Council and all City officials on legal matters related to their duties, oversees all litigation involving the City, and attends City Council meetings to provide legal counsel. Additionally, the City Attorney reviews and approves bonds, contracts, ordinances, and resolutions, and prosecutes violations of the City’s Municipal Code.
